One of our recent projects was to design a memorial wall for Pete Moxon, a dedicated member of the respiratory team at the Royal Wolverhampton NHS Trust who had sadly passed away after a 32- year career within the NHS.

The team wanted to include a photo of Fair Oak Pools, Cannock Chase, taken by photographer Steve Moore who had given permission to use his photo of the local area.  Andrew Pritchard, Chief Respiratory Physiologist and Clinical Service Manager, explains: “We felt it had an extra layer to it as we know that Pete did sometimes walk his dog around the pool in the picture. Steve has seen the image in place and said;

“Wow that’s big!!! It looks great. I’m honoured to have my photo on display for more people to enjoy. Thank you”

The wall was installed on 7th February 2023 in the patient waiting area and his family were invited to see it at a special unveiling in early March.  Images were also installed in several other areas.

For the memorial part of the art, Andrew explains: “I met with the designers at Grosvenor Interiors and we discussed the design.  I knew what elements we wanted to include (picture of Pete, the text, departmental logo etc) and the design team did a great job of putting it all together in a fabulous contemporary design.  When we received the design proof, the whole team thought it was brilliant.”

We love to get feedback on our newly installed designs and were delighted to receive an email from the team expressing:

“heartfelt thanks for all the support and dedication you have put into this project. The memorial art has been installed this morning and it is absolutely brilliant. I knew it was going to be excellent following our meeting – but I wasn’t prepared for how much better it actually looks in the flesh! My whole team are absolutely blown away and in the few hours it has been up in our waiting area, it is already receiving lots of praise from our patients”.

The project was made possible due to donations from Pete’s professional body, ARTP (Association for Respiratory Technology and Physiology), who also named an award after Pete (the Pete Moxon Rising Star Award) which was first awarded at their March conference.  Members of the Association also contributed to a Just Giving page set up by the Trust.  Together with further contributions from colleagues, friends and family and RWT Charitable Funding, a total of £2350 was raised.

The hospital were amazed by the professional outpouring of support and following the unveiling in March, Pete’s wife Jane commented:

“When we came in to see the memorial, we were completely blown away: it is so beautiful, it really touched our hearts. Pete was extremely dedicated to his profession and he would be truly honoured.We are devastated at losing Pete but would like to thank everyone for their support at this very difficult time, in particular Andrew Pritchard and all his team who have been so supportive to us all as a family.”
